Former President Donald Trump took a break from criticizing public officials in his New York fraud case and his opponents in 2024 to take on Kim Kardashian.
In an odd parody of Truth Social, the former president called the reality TV star turned social justice activist “the world's most overrated celebrity.”
His criticism comes as Jonathan Karl writes in his new book, Tired of Winning: Donald Trump and the End of the Grand Old Partyhow the reality star used her celebrity to urge the then-president to commute some prison sentences.
Carl, a reporter for ABC News, writes that on several occasions during Trump's presidency, Ms. Kardashian has gone to the White House to advocate for criminal justice reform.
And it states that Mr Trump asked Ms Kardashian to bring football stars, with whom she was friends, to the White House.
“This story is Fake News as he would be the last person I asked to take football players,” Mr Trump wrote in his announcement on Truth Social. “I had a lot of teams, from all sports and leagues, at the White House. If there was even the slightest bit of reluctance, I would immediately withdraw the invitation, there would be NO Negotiation – But that didn't happen often.”
In May 2018, Ms. Kardashian spoke to Trump in the Oval Office to specifically advocate for the commutation of Alice Marie Johnson's sentence. She He wrote on social media at the time: “I would like to thank President Trump for his time this afternoon. We hope the President will pardon Ms. Alice Marie Johnson who is serving a life sentence for a first time, non-violent drug offense.”
Just a month later, Trump commuted Johnson's sentence.
Now, the former president has admitted that he helped “convert prisoners,” but “only if it was worth it, and much more for Kanye West than for Kim, who probably voted for the crook Joe Biden.”
Ms Kardashian's ex-husband Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, and Mr Trump have a well-documented relationship. You also met with Mr. Trump at the White House during his presidency, reportedly asked Trump to serve as his running mate in 2024 — a race he has seemingly given up — and attended an infamous dinner with Mr. Trump and Holocaust denier Nick Fuentes at Mar-a-Lago in 2022.
