New match and new record! Disney+ Hotstar on Wednesday set a new viewership record during the India-New Zealand match for the second time during the World Cup 2023 campaign. Most recently, the concurrent viewership for the live broadcast was 4.3 million, which was broken today. During the semi-final between India and New Zealand, live concurrent users exceeded 50 million (5.1 million to be exact).

This is not the first time that a simultaneous attendance record has been set during this World Cup. The first time was during the India-Pakistan match on October 14, when the app recorded 3.5 million concurrent viewers. During this year's Indian Premier League (IPL) title clash between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans, it broke a record of 3.2 million concurrent viewers.

Additionally, the record attendance of 3.5 crore was soon broken during the 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup match between India and New Zealand on 22 October. Disney+ Hotstar recorded 4.3 million viewers during the match.

The record peak concurrent viewership can be credited to Disney+ Hotstar's decision to stream the ICC Men's ODI Cricket World Cup for free in an ad-supported format. Of course, the move comes after JioCinema's success in the IPL season earlier this year, which also telecasted all the matches on the platform for free.

Notably, during the World Cup 2019 semi-final match, Hotstar set a record of 25.3 million concurrent viewers during the India vs New Zealand match.
