Apple launched its second-generation HomePod smart speaker earlier this year in India. It comes with a mesh exterior, along with an illuminated touch surface on top of a cylindrical body. According to reports, the company is now working on new HomePod speakers equipped with touchscreen displays. In March, analyst Min-Chi Kuo noted that the California-based tech giant is expected to launch a redesigned HomePod in the first half of 2024, and it could feature a 7-inch touchscreen. Now a new leak has surfaced that suggests a HomePod design with a touchscreen display.
According to X post By user Kosutami ( @KosutamiSan ) Apple is working on a HomePod frame shell that could come with a glass top used as a touchscreen display with black bezels. The post indicates that its design appears to be similar to the second-generation Apple HomePod. The post did not reveal additional details about the speaker. It is important to note here that Apple launched the HomePod (2nd generation) almost two years after the first generation HomePod was discontinued.
Earlier, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also claimed that Apple is working on a HomePod with a touch screen. The report claims that Apple could launch a redesigned HomePod with a 7-inch touch panel in the first half of 2024. Tianma, which is believed to be Apple's exclusive partner for the speaker, supplies the displays to other businesses.
With the launch of the touchscreen HomePod, Apple could compete with Google's Nest Hub and Amazon's Echo Show models. So far, Apple has lagged behind its competitors when it comes to smart speakers.
Meanwhile, the second-generation HomePod smart speaker comes with Apple's personal assistant Siri and the S7 processor. Its price in India is Rs. 32,900 and is available in White and Midnight color options.
